Editor’s Choice: Best ‘Four-Star’ Hotel

The Facts: In the spring of 2009 Scandic Hotels breathed new life into the renowned Palace Hotel at City Hall Square. The long-established landmark and hotel, built in 1910, got a complete make-over to its rooms, restaurant, bar and lobby area.
All areas were renovated and furnished in a modern, Scandinavian style that matches the landmark building’s exterior profile. The hotel is home to popular restaurants and bars for hotel guests and locals alike. With its location at City Hall Square, near Strøget, the shopping street, and opposite the amusement park Tivoli, the hotel is as central as it gets in the Danish capital. The Palace’s illustrious guest list has included Laurel and Hardy, Bob Hope, John Wayne, Louis Armstrong, and Audrey Hepburn over the years. The hotel’s Golden Book contains a priceless collection of signatures.

Cozy Digs: The Scandic Palace expanded from 162 to 170 rooms. Refurbishments to the rooms brought a modern, Scandinavian style.

Final Word: True to Scandic’s philosophy to operate a chain of “smart,” four-star properties, the Palace was notched down from five stars to four, which is why we’ve designated the hotel as Copenhagen’s best “four-star” hotel.
