Facts: Four miles north of Copenhagen and 100 yards from the sea, Skovshoved Hotel is a lovely three-story hotel set in a charming former fishing village. Rated one of the world’s top 50 hottest hotels (by Condé Nast), Skovshoved Hotel is decorated in a light and simple Scandinavian style with tasteful art that complements the beautiful setting. For an authentic pub atmosphere, you won’t do better than the Skovshoved Pub next door. Have a Carlsberg and a Gammel Dansk and chat up the locals.
There is a bus stop right outside the hotel that will take you to City Hall Square near Tivoli and the Strøget. Or use one of the hotels bikes free of charge. From the Skovshoved Hotel, it’s a pleasant 20 minute walk along the sea and through a park to the town of Hellerup, where there is some interesting shopping for clothes and housewares as well as a few restaurants, although the hotel’s restaurant and patio serves up some of the best dishes you’ll find, including a wonderful rendition of mussels cooked in white wine.

Guest Rooms: Skovshoved has 22 guest rooms of varying size, many with balconies that provide a wonderful view of the sea and the coast. The rooms have comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and overhead, rainforest style showers. They are also equipped with all the tools that are necessary for both leisure and business travelers, including free high-speed internet access.

Final Word: Situated on an old coastal road and surrounded by historic houses, Skovshoved Hotel is just a stone’s throw from the sea. Not far down the road are the Royal Hunting Grounds, with forests and open fields that can be accessed easily on foot or bicycle. This natural preserve has an abundance of wildlife, including large herds of deer. Don’t miss the neighborhood pub next door. Skovshoved is an excellent choice if you want an authentic Danish atmosphere that isn’t smack dab in the center of Copenhagen.
